The long-standing demand of the coastal region has finally been met as the Railway Board has decided to separate Mangaluru from the Palakkad division of the Southern Railway and bring it under the jurisdiction of the Mysuru Division. The Mangalore railway network is under the Palakkad division of the Southern Railway, which is a constant injustice to the coastal region of Karnataka. There were allegations that old and poor quality train coaches were being used on the Mangalore route.
